Welcome to Dance and Being Art Project

At the 3 day workshop we will delve deep into the practice of ‘Embodied Unity‘ by blending Dance and Contact Improvisation with Chi Gong and Yoga philosophies. You will learn different ways to integrate the Chinese five elements, their function, how they interconnect with the human body and nature.

We will give particular focus to the Fire and Water elements – their meridians, organs and their specific implementation of healing through dance improvisation.

You will have a unique opportunity to self-discover, heal, and unify your body, mind and spirit. The practice will focus on the individual-self as well as on the individual-self as part of a relationship and part of a group. The workshops include solo, paired, small group and whole group processes.

Each workshop has the same overall theme, however each will be tailored to meet the needs of the participants present.

This project is dedicated to bridging life with dance, dance with life. There is nothing more important than directing consciousness with the right intention to self develop, find relationship equilibrium and a collective harmony. Together we can find the unity and love so as to uplift our minds, find peace in our hearts, and liberate ourselves!


We are living in an unreal world always reaching for more possessions and wealth. What will stay in the end? What will we remember the most? What is our purpose in this “school” that is called life? Let us direct our intentions and consciousness to heal and transform our wounds of the past, be true to ourselves in the present, and live a bright future with love and care for all.

The Dance and Being Art project has as its main focus the research, development and implementation of interdisciplinary practices and modalities between dance, improvisation, meditation, healing, performance, and choreography, to assist and support human evolution through our fast moving and rapidly changing current era.

“Embodied Unity” is a profound practice  and philosophy developed by Vangelis Legakis, offered in workshops within his “Dance and Being Art” project. Embodied Unity is a unique synthesis of contemporary and improvisational dance, Chi Gong, yoga, healing  and meditation.

The workshops of this unique project will allow participants to discover and learn about diverse dance and movement practices (Flying Low, Release, Contact Improvisation, Choreography), somatic and energetic healing modalities, meditation, Chi Gong, Kundalini and Hatha Yoga, so as to create a better coexistence with each other through the art of dancing. We will use dance as the backbone on which we will build up strong foundations for all other practices.

These workshops are suitable for people of any background who enjoy self development and learning through their body.

Vangelis first organised and facilitated this project in 2013 and recreated it in 2014 in collaboration with Matthew Shilcock. Matt was investigating  ways to make this work accessible for disabled people through his unique research on ‘Osteogenuine’ methodology.

In 2017 people from the Sunshine Coast (Qld) Contact Improvisation, Conscious Dance and Zenthai Shiatsu communities have invited Vangelis to teach on the Sunshine Coast.



  • To bring dance in the lives of all people disregarding their professional background or experience in dance.
  • To offer a coherent and simple practice to connect individually with ourselves, to connect in relationships with others, and finally create balanced eco-systems of collective harmonious groups and communities.
  • To introduce fundamental meditation practices that correlate with and complement  dance and movement meditation.
  • To bring high standards of dance practice into the healing and embodiment fields of practice.
  • To introduce techniques and exercises that are accessible to all and can be practiced at home individually and with family.
  • To offer a method to nurture and flourish the unity and harmony between the body, emotions, mind and spirit.
  • To transform unpreferable emotions and states into preferable; delving into the art of letting go and transformation.


Anyone who enjoys learning through their body, anyone who has an open mind and heart to experience transformation.

Professional & Non-Professional Dancers, Yoga practitioners, Chi Gong practitioners, Zenthai Shiatsu and other healing practitioners, and meditators may particularly enjoy this work.
